About this deal

This was my first time encountering Boardman's work but based on the premise and being published by Nobrow, I was expecting something aimed at older readers and either principally visual or prose/sequential art in tandem. I’ve shared a couple of pages in the slides to illustrate that; I found a lot of the historical parts about how different cultures approach the concept of ghosts really interesting, but as a noted pop culture fiend, I particularly enjoyed all the mentions of ghost related books and films a lot too! The illustrations were simple but fun but again could have been better in some places as more detail was needed in some areas of the book visually. Whether you are a ghost fanatic or simply piqued by curiosity, you’ll get a robust deep dive into the experiences of paranormal occurrences, alternative explanations for these occurrences, and our culture’s fascination with them. The illustrations in this book are what really sells it though, they are so eye catching and perfect for the subject matter.

It did touch upon a lot of different subjects such as haunted locations, ghost legends and the media etc… but again it was too brief and was mostly a couple of sentences for each explanation. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. ISBN: 9781913123079 Author: Boardman, Adam Allsuch Publisher: Nobrow Publication Date: 1st September 2022 Imprint: Nobrow Cover: Hardback Dewey: 133. Through the decades, investigators and mediums have dedicated themselves to the task of reaching through the veil and contacting the other side. The illustrations are great and very easy to follow, the style is very well suited to this kind of book. There is also a unique guide on the different types of ghost and yes there is more than one type of ghost which was news to me. It's more like a highlight reel than a history book, but for someone with limited knowledge on the subject there's more than enough here to make it interesting read. I guess I just read too many magic books as a kid and am used to the "A good magician never reveals his secrets" stick. Since then, Adam has worked for a variety of clients such as Apple, The Economist, Deloitte and Monocle.

The pre-loved books are carefully cleaned and maintained offering a wide variety of general and specialist titles from children's to adults. Some of the information contained in the book I was aware of but some was very new to me so although this was a fun read I would also say it was an educational read too. I think this one appealed to me a little bit more, guess I’m just more of a ghost fan than aliens, but I feel that each of these works, with their useful glossaries and resources, would be quite appropriate for teens and preteens who are interested in outré subjects. Veterans who know Boardman's work will likely really enjoy this as it's clearly a good quality output, just not to my taste.

It didn't go into as much detail as I'd hoped - I thought we'd get a few more in depth case studies/stories told in a more compelling way, but it was very much "here's the fact, move on" with some puns thrown in. this book is a real gem for a young ghost hunter in your life (and haven't we all gone through that phase? I had hoped for more real ghost stories that I could share round a campfire, but there wasn’t really a single story that I could share.
